Kumho Tire Co., Inc. (“Kumho Tire Korea”, a parent company of Kumho Tire U.S.A.) one of the world’s leading tire manufacturers, has announced its selection as the winner of the North American Green Good Design Award 2024 in the Green Transportation category.

The Green Good Design Award is an award that follows the heritage of the Good Design Award, one of the world’s top three design honors, and is awarded based on eco-friendly sustainable designs. It is organized by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Center for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies.

Kumho Tire Korea was honored to have a total of three products selected in the transportation design category: Majesty X Solus, SOLUS TA21 and Road Venture AT52.

The Majesty X is a top-of-the-line comfort premium product that continues the legacy of Kumho Tire Korea’s premium tire, the Majesty SOLUS, and is installed on sedans, coupes, and crossover vehicles. It can be used on wet and snowy roads in addition to dry roads due to its comfortable ride and handling performance. In particular, it provides optimal quietness by applying ‘pattern noise reduction technology’ that disperses noise generated from tire grooves with a dimple design and improves driving performance and wear performance by utilizing a pattern design simulating system.

The SOLUS TA21 has a wide lineup from 13 inches to 18 inches to cover compact and sub-compact/mid-size cars, and is an affordable product that delivers well-balanced performance. This product features a specific compound for all-season driving conditions. It delivers an excellent, comfortable ride and low-noise performance with an optimal block arrangement design for noise suppression/dispersion from the road.

The Road Venture AT52 is an on- and off-road tire providing good traction on rough North American off-road terrain such as rocky and muddy trails and is increasingly well-known among drivers of pickup trucks, SUVs, and 4x4s. This product has a sawtooth-shaped shoulder biter design, supported by the tread design to protect the weak point of the tire sidewall from sharp off-road terrain. It also features a five-length pitch block arrangement that ensures comfortable and quiet driving on regular roads.

Kim Young-jin, head of Kumho Tire Korea’s R&D headquarters, said, “By strengthening product design capabilities, we can increase the product’s life cycle by improving wear performance and fuel efficiency, thereby reducing the number of scrap tires and contributing to preventing environmental pollution. Kumho Tire Korea is strengthening both design and performance by strengthening its eco-friendly technology as well as sustainable design capabilities.”

Kumho Tire Korea also won the grand prize in the product category at the Japan Good Design Awards for its WinterCRAFT WP52 EV. The product also won the German Red Dot Design Award 2024, announced in April of this year.
