ATLANTA, GA. (May 23, 2023) – Kumho Tire has secured a contract with Volkswagen, one of the largest global auto manufacturers, to provide its Crugen HP71 tire as the original equipment (OE) for the Taos, a compact SUV. 

 

With ample space and excellent driving stability, the Taos boasts a modern design, classy interior, and a full suite of cutting-edge technology including Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit display. Its turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 158 hp delivers competitive mileage, and available 4-motion all-wheel drive offers reliable handling, and superb ride comfort. 

 

The Crugen HP71 to be fitted on the Taos, in size 215/55R18, is a premium high-performance CUV and SUV tire that enhances smooth driving and exceptional comfort. With the introduction of Kumho’s next-generation rubber-based compounds, wear and snow performance have improved over 20%. In addition, the application of wide circumferential grooves and 3D sipes improve handling and braking in all weather conditions, year-round.

Kumho Tire has been working with the world’s major automakers to develop tires for current high-efficiency gasoline vehicles, as well as next-generation electric vehicles. Kumho is currently the original equipment tire supplier for the Volkswagen ID.4 battery electric SUV, fitted with an EV specific variant of the Crugen HP71, designed to cope with the additional weight and torque of fully electric vehicles.
