They're designed to resist uneven wear and give a long tread life while carrying constant loads that are typically driven long distances at sustained speeds on most Interstate Highway type roads.

Regional tires are used on vehicles that typically run from one city to another. These tires are designed for varying loads vehicle speeds and distances. These vehicles commonly travel on both highway and secondary roads.The regional tire will yield high mileage treadwear, good casing durability, good stability / handling / and traction.

Pick-up & Delivery (P&D) tires are used for short trips at slow variable speeds (0-50 mph), and loads with a lot of stop / go / turning. These tires have good traction and a resistance to sidewall damage.

This classification is used for on / off road application. Mixed Service is broken up into three sub-categories: Light Duty (85% on-road, 15% off-road) Medium Duty (55% on-road, 45% off-road) Heavy Duty (15% on-road, 85% off-road).

The Off Road category is reserved for those tires that spend almost 100% of their time in Off Road conditions. The most common applications are related to Coal Mining or Rock Quarrying. These tires are exposed to severe cut, chip & tearing of the tread, and must be specially designed and compounded to survive in these conditions.

A Catch - All category for tires which don't really fit in any of the above Classifications; 15", 16", 17.5" High Capacity Trailer Tires and "Hard Metric" "C" or commercial 14" tires are examples.

Super Single (wide base tires) are primarily used on mixed service steer applications where flotation is required. Some fleets use these tires on trailer applications. (esp. in Europe).
