KUMHO scores 23 SCCA Solo National championships, 14 divisional Club Racing titles

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA… October 31, 2006…KUMHO and its dominant ECSTA V710 DOT-race tire fared well again at the 34 th annual Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships, held during the last week of September at Forbes Field in Topeka, KS. KUMHO drivers claimed 18 national championships at this year’s event, giving the company more titles than any other broad line tire manufacturer.

In the stock classes at the Solo Nationals, 206 of the 413 competitors ran on KUMHO tires, giving KUMHO 49 percent of the field in those classes. Of the 1169 total competitors who competed in all of the classes at the Solo Nationals, 326 competed on KUMHOs, giving KUMHO 27 percent of the total field.

It was more of the same in the ProSolo classes, where KUMHO drivers claimed five ProSolo season championships. Ninety-nine out of the 257 total entries were on KUMHOs, giving the company 38 percent of the ProSolo field. With eight tire companies taking part in the Solo and ProSolo National Championships, KUMHO had more than its fair share of the business.

KUMHO also enjoyed another successful year in SCCA Club Racing, claming 14 divisional champions in Touring and Showroom Stock classes.

At the SCCA Runoffs, held in Topeka, KS, during the second week of October, NayKid Racing’s Scotty White claimed the pole in Touring 1 in his Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe.

White led for the first nine laps of the race, but a puncture forced him to stop for a new tire and knocking him out of contention in the 35-minute race. White’s teammate, Cindi Lux, started fifth and moved up through the field to second, then took over the lead when White had to pit. Lux held the lead for seven laps and finally lost if after a terrific two-lap battle with eventual winner Lance Knupp in a Corvette Z06. Lux held on to finish second—her highest finish ever at the Runoffs—followed by Jeffrey Robbins, also driving a KUMHO-shod Viper.

In the Showroom Stock C class, John Saucier, of Midwest City, OK, started eighth and finished second in his KUMHO-shod Mazda3.
